Pirouette a multimedia exhibition presented by the design duo Ouecha. This project nods to the "white cube" gallery tradition while preserving the immediacy and presumed approachability of the "retail" experience. The clothing, sounds, installation, video, and design in the exhibition employ the language of "style" as a means of establishing channels of meaning that defy hierarchy. The complexity of the space is mediated by a "chapter system" that offers lyrical guidance for process and change. The thematic temperament of the work aims to balance optimistic and pessimistic tones in suggesting that the diffusion of subjectivity and the arousal of collective agency might be more related than they initially sound. It is in response to today's ambient sense of global loss and violence that Ouecha ask how "style" can be a refuge and catalyst. The title Pirouette, a technical term in dance for spinning, reminds us that change can be spontaneous, enchanted, and real. This fusion of the metaphorical and the actual energizes Pirouette's wish to exemplify the seemingly forgotten discipline of idiorrhythmy: the practice of living together.
